Venus finds a home!

It was a cold, windy, snowy day at the shelter yesterday, but it was a good day for Venus! She was the only adoption of the day, although several people came to visit. A big thanks to her new family for adopting a shelter dog! Spread the word! We have many other pets waiting for their chance. The more we can get our shelter and Paw Pals in the public eye (and ear), the more pets we can help. Tell everyone you know that is considering a pet to adopt, not shop! Send someone you know an email telling them about our blog http://pawpalsofcchs.blogspot.com/ and our page on Petfinder http://www.cchumane.petfinder.org/. Our page on Petfinder will keep you up to date on the pets we have available, and our blog will keep you informed about what is going on with the shelter and Paw Pals. Thank you for visiting with us today!

Sinatra!

Here is an update on Sinatra, a beautiful, blue-eyed boxer mix that was originally adopted from our shelter. He unfortunately contracted parvo, and his future looked uncertain. Luckily, a Paw Pals member who works at the vet's office stepped in to help. Paw Pals paid for his treatment, and he pulled through. He was adopted again and is thriving with his new family.
This is another happy story brought to you by Paw Pals, and is a good example of why we do what we do. Nothing feels better than to get a picture and an update on a pet that you have invested time and money in, trying to give them the home they deserve. Thank you to all who cared enough to give Sinatra a chance, and a big thank you to his new family!

Great turnout Sunday!

Yesterday was a nice, sunny day to volunteer at the shelter. We had 15 people show up to help! Some of the things we did were walk dogs, visit the cats, had the shelter open from 1-3 for adoptions (1 dog, 1 puppy, and 1 cat were adopted!), Toots the dog was given a nice long bath, and the pets were fed and watered for the evening. Thanks to all that showed up! Things go much more smoothly when we have a good turnout. A couple of you mentioned that you had been going in to help some during the week. This is a goal of ours to have a steady stream of help everyday. If there is a particular time of the week that works better for you, let us know. Please spread the word to anyone you know that would like to volunteer. We greatly appreciate any help we get, and want you to feel welcome to help us anytime. Thanks for all you do!

From the Heart Rescue Saves More Cats!

Thanks to Bill and Peggy Hodges, From the Heart Rescue, many more cats from the Clinton County Humane Society are finding homes. These four boys were found dumped along Highway 38 in Clinton County. All of them have found happy homes thanks to the efforts of From the Heart Rescue located in Westfield. Their cats are available for adoption from the Carmel PetsMart on US 31 and 146th Street. All of the kittens/cats are tested for feline leukemia/FIV and spayed or neutered at the rescue's expense. From January 1st to March 14th of this year, Peggy and Bill adopted out 42 cats rescued from our shelter. Just two weeks ago, they pulled another 17 cats. Of those 17 felines, seven have already found homes. If you happen to stop by the Carmel PetsMart, please tell Peggy and Bill how much we appreciate what they do for us. Check out From the Heart Rescue's website http://www.heartrescue.org/

Benji Has Finally Found His Home in Lexington, KY!

Hello. I kept your pictures of Benji, now named Barchu,(Barkoo). He looks so pitiful in the yard all by himself. I guess these pictures were the right ones to send. I have attached pictures we took last week after a bath. The one outside shows he still doesn't like the camera as his head is down.He is very content in the house. In fact,it has been a little difficult to get him to go outside unless it is for a walk, but he is now learning to use the bathroom in a small yard and immediately wants to come back in.Crating him has been hard,so last night we moved it into our bedroom. He was perfectly content. We want him to feel it is a safe place, not a punishment. He has been neutered and is on the mend.If we ever get him trimmed the way I want it done I will send the Humane Society a picture. Right now he is way too afraid of grooming so we will go very slowly.I think we made the right choice. He is so grateful for his new parents and home! Corliss West

Here is a list of some of the ways you can volunteer for Paw Pals and at the shelter.

  • Walk dogs or socialize cats.
  • Brush or bathe a pet.
  • Help with some of the daily cleaning routines at the shelter and around the grounds.
  • Foster a pet that needs a little work to be adopted.
  • Transport a pet to the vet or to a rescue.
  • Help us with off-site adoption events.
  • Help us with events or ideas to raise money.
  • We could always use help taking pictures or videos of pets for the website. They don't always hold still, so it can be a two person job to get just the right shot.
  • Do you have any other special talents that could benefit the animals or the shelter?
  • Join us any Sunday afternoon from 1-3 to help walk dogs. It's great exercise, and the dogs will love you for it!
  • Join Paw Pals and make a difference!

If you have any questions about volunteering, please let us know! We would love to help you get involved!

Here is a list of some of the things you can donate to Paw Pals and the shelter.

  • Cash donations of any size are always appreciated!
  • Dry dog/puppy food or cat/kitten food (better quality is preferred but we appreciate anything we can get).
  • Non-clumping cat litter.
  • Towels, cleaning supplies, HE laundry detergent.
  • Office supplies (stamps, copy paper, etc.).
  • Gift cards (Wal-Mart, Petsmart, Lowe's, etc.), gas cards (to transport animals to rescues).
  • Think big! We could use a new van or truck! Our current vehicle is really racking up the miles!
  • Your time. Volunteers are badly needed to help care for and find homes for all of the animals that come to our shelter.

A very patient cat

I'm not going to make a habit out of posting a lot of pet videos unless they're related to the shelter, but I don't have anything else in mind right now. I just thought some of you would appreciate this one that was sent to me recently. I've never had a cat that would put up with all of that! Have any of you?
