Offsite at the Carmel PetSmart

Here are a few pictures from our offsite adoption at the Carmel PetSmart today. Clockwise from the top left: Jimmie had a nice day out! Sophie with her new mom! Peggy, the wonderful lady who has rescued many cats from our shelter! This is the first time Major was calm all day!

It was a long day, and it looked like we weren't going to have any success until the last hour. Sophie found a home! We still took 7 other dogs back home, but they had a good day out of the shelter or their foster homes, and there was some interest in several of them that may pan out later. It would be nice if we could do these events more often, but they take a lot of work and time. If any of you are interested in helping with future events, let us know. We'd be happy to have you join us!

It was a very good day, and a lot of people stopping by to say hello to the dogs, and thank us for our efforts. It is a great way to get exposure for our animals. I agree with Rick - even if they didn't get adopted at the off-site, there's no doubt us being there raises awareness and people might go home to discuss and stop by the shelter when they're ready.

And all the dogs did so well. I was not shy about telling people that the dogs had been in crates/vehicles since about 11 in the morning, and were still well behaved in a noisy, active store by 5 p.m. that evening. I think that registered with some people. And it helped make an impression. It's hard for us humans to sit without fidgeting during such a long day. At least WE get to socialize, take walks when we want/need, change scenery, etc. I think all the dogs there were exceptional given the long day and being tethered to a human for the duration! I was proud of each one of them!
